Refractory materials production process

2022-02-14

Depending on the density and shape of the product, there are sintering, casting, and melt-blowing methods. The sintering method involves pre-sintering some of the raw materials into mature materials, crushing and sieving them, and then mixing them with raw materials in a certain proportion, followed by molding, drying, and firing. The purpose of pre-sintering the raw materials is to remove the moisture, organic impurities, and gases decomposed from sulfates, thereby reducing the shrinkage of the fired product and ensuring the accuracy of the product's dimensions. After crushing and grinding, the raw materials also need to be sieved, because the坯料 is graded with powders of different particle sizes, which can ensure the tightest packing and obtain a dense坯体. In order to homogenize the composition and particles of various raw materials and mature materials, mixing is required, and a binder is added to enhance the bonding strength of the坯料. For example, bonding clay is added to alumina-silicate坯料, waste liquid from sulfite pulp is added to magnesia坯料, and lime milk is added to silica坯料, etc. Depending on the water content of the坯料, semi-dry molding (about 5% water content), plastic molding (about 15% water content), and slip casting (about 40% water content) can be used. Then drying and firing are carried out. The casting method involves mixing and finely grinding the raw materials, melting them at high temperatures, directly casting them, and then cooling, crystallizing, and annealing to form the product. Examples include cast mullite bricks, corundum bricks, and magnesia bricks. Their坯体 is dense, with high mechanical strength, high high-temperature structural strength, good slag resistance, and their range of applications is constantly expanding. The melt-blowing method involves melting the batch, and then blowing it with high-pressure air or superheated steam to disperse it into fibers or hollow spheres. The products are mainly used as lightweight refractory and heat-insulating materials. In addition, they can also be made into powdery or granular monolithic refractory materials. When used, they are bonded with binders such as tar, asphalt, cement, phosphate, sulfate, or chloride, and are used directly without molding and sintering.
