Brief introduction to the stopper head

2025-10-11

1 What is a stopper head

The stopper head is the core component of the plug system, consisting of two parts: refractory stopper head body and the built-in steel argon blowing rod core. It is located at the bottom end of the plug and cooperates with the water gate brick The stopper head is the core component of the plug system. The plug system is a current casting system for steel ingots.

2 The function of the stopper head

The brick is made of mica, graphite, and high-purity carbon powder as raw materials, with 811 resin as the binder, which contains more than70% solid, and St powder as the antioxidant. After molding, it is soaked and distilled. It can be used to make blast furnace refractory materials When not casting, it blocks the water gate to ensure no steel leakage. When casting, the plug is raised, and a gap is produced between the stopper head and the water gate, and the steel liquid flows out from the water gate. By controlling the height of the plug, the flow rate of the steel liquid can be adjusted. The stopper head and the core can be fixed with screws or pins. The stopper head can be clay, unburned high alumina, and unburned high alumina bricks soaked in tar.
The structure of the stopper head

The improved integral stopper head (as shown below) adopts a one-piece molding process with pre-embedded joint molds, which combines advantages of both the pin type and the thread type structures. When designing the mold, full consideration is given to the problems that may exist in the production process, such as the plug the plug not being perpendicular, and the hollow plug being unable to withstand the pressure of the press and deforming. A special mold is used to place the joint in the mold first and then the refractory material is put into the mold and pressed as a whole through appropriate pressure. In this way, on the one hand, it ensures the strength requirements during, on the other hand, it ensures that the hollow plug does not deform. After the use of the integral stopper head, it is observed that the erosion of the spherical crown end the stopper head is good, and no "dropping head" accident occurred during use. This product has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, erosion resistance, and good thermal shock. It is widely used in steel ladles, tundishs, and other continuous casting equipment. By adjusting the steel flow rate, the precise control of the casting process is [4-5] [8]. The main materials include clay, high alumina, and tar-impregnated unburned high alumina bricks.
