该方法是1970年日本新日铁公司发明的,其原理是利用挡渣球密度介于钢、渣之间(-般为 4.2-4.5g/cm3),在出钢将结束时堵住出钢口以阻断渣流人钢包内。挡渣球的形状为球形,其中心一般用铸铁块、生铁屑压合块、小废钢坏等材料做骨架,外部包砌耐火泥料,可采用高铝质耐火混泥土、耐火砖粉为掺和料的高铝矾土耐火混凝土或镁质耐火泥料。只要满足挡渣的工艺要求,应力求结构简单,成本低廉。
考虑到出钢口受侵蚀变大的问题,挡渣球直径应比出钢口直径稍大,以起到挡渣作用挡渣球一般在出钢量达到1/2-2/3时投入,挡渣命中率高。但由于挡渣球通常是以随波逐流的方式到达出钢口,然而由于钢渣黏性大,挡渣球有时不能顺利到达出钢口,或者不能有效地在钢水将流尽时堵住出钢口。另外,又由于圆形挡渣球完全落到出钢口上,出钢口过早封堵的几率显著增加,降低了钢水收得率,故挡渣球法的可靠性难以令人满意。但由于挡渣球法操作简单,因此,目前国内外多数钢厂仍都采用挡渣球挡渣。

The method was invented by the Nippon Steel Corporation in Japan in 1970. Its principle is to use the density the deoxidizing ball between steel and slag (- generally 4.2-4.5g/cm3) to block the steel outlet at the end of steel tapping to prevent slag from flowing into the ladle. The shape of the slag ball is spherical, and its center is generally made of cast iron block, pig iron scrapction block, small scrap steel, etc., and the outside is covered with refractory mortar. It can be made of high-alumina refractory concrete,refractory brick powder such as admixture high alumina clay refractory concrete or magnesia refractory mortar. As long as the process requirements for deoxidation are, it is desirable to keep the structure simple and the cost low.
Considering the problem of erosion and enlargement of the steel outlet, the diameter of the deoxid ball should be slightly larger than the diameter of the steel outlet, so as to play the role of deoxidation. The slag ball is generally put into operation the steel tapping reaches 1/2-2/3, and the deoxidation hit rate is high. However, since the slag ball usually arrives at steel outlet with the flow of the current, sometimes it cannot reach the steel outlet smoothly, or it cannot effectively block the steel outlet when the steel is about to flow out. Since the round slag ball completely falls on the steel outlet, the probability of premature plugging of the steel outlet increases significantly, reducing the yield of steel, the reliability of the slag ball method is difficult to satisfy. However, since the slag ball method is simple to operate, most steel plants at home and abroad  still use the slag  ball for deoxidation.
