A Brief Introduction of Self-flowing Castables

2025-10-17

1 Definition

Self-flowing refractory castables are industrial refractory materials made from high-aluminum clinker, brown corundum, etc. as aggregates, by optimizing the particle size distribution and adding high-efficiency water reducers [1]. This material can achieve self-flowing and spreading under the action of its own weight, and is suitable for construction of complex structural parts. It has mechanical properties with a compressive strength of 40-50MPa at 1350℃×3h, and an operating temperature range of 1400-1600℃.

2 Material composition

The aggregate system uses high-aluminum clinker or brown corundum, with an Al₂O3 content of 50-90% [1]

The matrix part contains ultrafine powders such as α-Al₂O3 micropowder and silica micropowder

Functional additives include high-efficiency water reducers and stainless steel fibers (reinforced)

3 Production process

Through the optimization of the three-level particle distribution, the fluidity is ensured, and the reasonable proportion of coarse particles (1-5mm), medium particles (0.1-1mm), and fine powder (<0.088mm) is controlled. A forced mixer is required for mixing. Steel fiber-reinforced products are evenly incorporated using the external spreading method.

4 Physical Properties

110°C x 24h Bulk Density: 2.15-2.80 g/cm³
1350°C x 3h Compressive Strength: 40-50 MPa
